Photos from the year 1998
My first glimpse of the Statue of Liberty off the ferry from New York City.
I currently do research at the Brookhaven
National Lab working on nuclear physics experiments at the Relativistic Heavy Ion
Collider. This is my first visit to BNL, in 1998, when the collider was still under
construction. I am standing next to the superconding magnets (under construction), which
extend throught the 4km long circular tunnel. Beams of gold nuclei travelling close to the
speed of light travel in this tunnel and are made to collide at very high energies in order
to recreate the conditions that existed in the universe just after the Big Bang.
I had gone on a hike along the Greenbelt trail with the Stony Brook Outdoors
Club. Here I am swinging over the Nissequogue river.
